Australian Builders Plates

Australian Builders Plates (ABP) are required on NSW maritime for Australian built and delivered vessels for registration, the ABP details a boat’s capacity, performance, and safety guidelines, such as maximum weight, person capacity, and load weight as per the ISO safety standards. ABPs are mandatory for vessels built or imported after September 2006, ensuring they meet safety standards alongside the Hull Identification Number (HIN) requirement.

Boatcheck Marine Surveyors facilitate the acquisition and updating of ABP’s for both locally built and imported vessels.

An ABP provides important information about the boat’s capacity and performance and enhances the safety of passengers by providing safety information, including:

  • Maximum weight and power rating for outboard engines
  • Maximum person capacity, as the number of persons and the total weight of persons
  • Maximum load weight that the boat can carry, including people and equipment
  • Buoyancy statement for boats less than six metres in length
  • Warning statements.

Displaying an ABP does not exempt vessels from the Hull Identification Number (HIN) requirement.

Standard Vessels – imported or built after September 2006 Australian Builders Plates

Please contact Boatcheck outlining your vessel year, make and model and we will contact you outlining the information and photographs required, to process your request. If no modifications from factory specification have been made boatcheck Marine Surveyors will create and forward a new ABP plate for your vessel.

I have questions about a boat I want to purchase

If you are considering buying a boat you may be buying privately or through a broker/dealer. As a broker, I always recommend an independent inspection is carried out on the vessel. Not only will this report highlight any future issues you may have but it will also help to get insurance should you proceed with the sale.

My boat was damaged, what do I need to do?
My Insurance company is asking for a vessel report

Ask the insurance company to send you a copy of the report they require and then contact us. We can walk you through the process and costs involved and then book a time to get access to the boat.

Our report includes an engine room inspection. If you desire a full mechanical report, please inform us or your broker in your booking notes.
